LITTLE FERRY Established in 1894. Located just seven miles from New York City, Little Ferry offers many opportunities to experience the outdoors, with a bird sanctuary, nature trails and birding at Losen Slote Creek Park and fishing at Lakeview Park. The borough was formed in 1894 and named after the rope-drawn “little ferry” that crossed the Hackensack River between 1659 and 1826. A historic African burial ground, Gethsemane Cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
